I’m very happy to finally post this. This is a short animation I did with coworker Mindy Brown. The project was done with After Effects and Illustrator. I’m really happy with the daughter animations, the run cycles, and the galaxy shots. Enjoy.
This project came from an English class assignment. I had the option of doing a creative work on any of the works we had read. I thought back to “The Star” by Arthur C. Clarke. After reading it, I found myself more intrigued with the aliens than the protagonist’s crisis of faith. So I wanted to personalize the doomed race. I wanted to show them in their final hours, trying to escape their fate.
The project was done over the course of two months, with most of the animation work being done during the last 2-3 weeks. I would come home from work, and from 7pm until midnight, storyboard and animate. On the weekends I would get up at 9 and work on the project all day until 9-10 at night. It was actually really awesome.
I wanted to get permission from Vsnares record label to use the music, so I emailed a link to them. The person I contacted said that I could use the music, if I did a music video for one of their artists. I’d love another reason to animate, and am looking forward to that possibility in the future.
