Re:Play @ The Winnipeg Art Gallery

Re:Play is a Game Culture and Technology Art Fair put on by mr. ghosty. It was really great to see what the various local people are up to. What is interesting to see is that over the various DataDance’s that three groups of attendees and supporters of these events have emerged:

1. The Artists: These are the DJ’s and musicians (Dopefish, Hexidecimate, myself BitCadet) VJ’s (Jaymez) and other artists who work in video or game based art (Clint Enns gave a great talk about machinima and ran a circuit bending booth that went over quite well.)

Of course, mr. ghosty, who will be doing his masters thesis on Video Games and Gamer Culture soon, also falls into this category

2. The Makers: All the SkullSpace Winnipeg members. They have been coming out to the Data Dance parties in droves, promoting the group. Here are a collection of engineers, programmers, and tinkerers who have banded together to run Winnipeg’s first Hackerspace right across the street from Red River College (Princess Campus).

3. The Developers (developers, developers): POMO Inc., All the people behind the Winnitron (Bit Collective), and other local game designers (Tomkorp and Project Whitecard were both at Re:Play showing off their stuff!) DataDance: v1 was the first public showing of the new NASA Game.

Now that mr. ghosty is off to Ontario, it’s up to this group to decide how to continue to grow events like this one.

Set List
I liked having the chance to put together something that wasn’t so dance orientated. I got to use all the great tracks that didn’t fit into the DataDance sets. Thanks again to all the artists, who put up their music for free.
