Do The D-A-N-C-E…

My girlfriend often shows me her dance videos (she is the videographer for UNITE, a Winnipeg based dance company.) Watching her dance routines reminds me of junior high, where I got into break dancing, and youtube tutorial videos. Looking around at her different videos on youtube, I found some new kinds of dance I want to attempt to learn.

*Dance 1: DnB Dancing*

I’m coming back to Drum n Bass, a genre of music I’ve known of for a long time, but never really listened to. I’ve seen people dance like this, and I’ve tried to mimic the best I could. Now, with youtube tutorials, I will melt the dance floor, that is if I don’t get out of breath first. Hopping up and down is tiring to say the least.

*Dance 2: House Dancing*

Now here is a genre of music I absolutely listen to, I just didn’t know it had a dance to go with it. House dancing looks like bboy stuff, but more jazz/swing-ier. Also looks great with Hammer pants.

*Dance 3: 1930’s Swing/Jazz Dancing*

I can’t stop watching this video. Plus, Daft Punk.

*Dance 4: HardCore Dancing*

Okay, this one is a joke, but it’s entertaining. I think the concept of angry teenagers flailing around to angry music is funny, but the idea that this became a ‘dance style’ is even better.

*Jumpstyle*

Jumpstyle is a dance and music genre. Jumpstyle consists of loud distorted bass drum and circus music. Jumpstyle dancing involves…jumping, with style.

*Shuffling*

Think of doing the most hardcore roger rabbit ever. That is shuffling. Wait, no. Think of the most hardcore roger rabbit, WHILE wearing wide cuffed pants. THAT is shuffling.
There seems to be a rivalry between Shuffling and Jump Style. I found several videos titled “Jumpstyle Vs. Shuffling” when looking this up. They’re both in competition for the Most Ridiculous Way to Dance to Obnoxious Music.

*Hakken*

Alright, if you think that the last two were pretty bad, brace yourself. This is called Hakken. Invented by the Dutch, it is both the easiest to perform AND the easiest to ridicule. Let me do both right now.

How to dance in the Hakken style (a guide.)
Step 1. Jog in place to the beat.

I can’t wait to put together the greatest (or weirdest) dance routine ever.
